The Word was established by Adrian King-Edwards and Lucille Friesen in 1973, in their apartment living room as an underground bookstore. In 1975, they relocated the store to a beautiful 19th-century brick building on Milton Street beside McGill University. Currently, the members of The Word team are Adrian, Brendan King-Edwards, Donna Jean-Louis, and Scott Moodie.
